Big Time Rush is an American pop boy band. They were formed in 2009 in Los Angeles, California. They were specifically created by the American kid’s entertainment channel Nickelodeon along with a musical comedy show by the same name. The original, and only members to ever be part of the group are vocalist and guitarist Kendall Schmidt (born in 1990 in Wichita, Kansas), vocalist and keyboardist James Maslow (1990, New York City, New York), vocalist Carlos PenaVega (1989, Columbia, Missouri), and another vocalist, Logan Henderson (1989, Temple, Texas).
Nickelodeon signed the four boys to be part of the band while simultaneously casting them on the show as well. None of the boys had ever played music with each other before the formation of the group, and all of them had been more focused on their acting careers than their music.
The show "Big Time Rush" drew high ratings, which prompted the TV station to move forward with their pop group project as well. So, in October 2010, about a year after the show first aired, they released the band Big Time Rush’s debut album. It was titled “BTR”, an abbreviation of the band and the show’s name. The record too became a hit, peaking at the #3 spot on the famous Billboard 200 list.
The Nickelodeon boys went on to release two more studio albums, thus they have 3 in total. The best selling one remained their debut album with around 700,000 copies sold in the US. The last new Big Time Rush album to come out was “24/Seven”, from June 2013. The same year, 2013, their TV show got canceled.
In March 2014, after the end of a tour, the band announced an indefinite hiatus, with the members expressing their desires to build up solo careers. That hiatus ended in July 2021, when they shared the news of a reunion Big Time Rush concert tour.
Big Time Rush’s biggest hits to date are “Worldwide” (2010), “Til I Forget About You” (2010), “Boyfriend” (also 2010), and “Windows Down” (2011). Check where the next Big Time Rush concert is playing on the page above.
