Joshua Ryan Owen, better known by his stage name Jake Owen, is an American singer and songwriter. He was born August 28, 1981 in Winter Haven,Florida. Owen has a twin brother. Growing up in Florida, the two brothers would often play all kinds of sports together. Jake’s favorite one ended up being golf, and he pursued a career as a professional golfer from his teenage years. However, an injury he suffered while wakeboarding prevented him from pursuing that any further.
While he was recovering from the injury, he borrowed the guitar from his neighbor and taught himself how to play it. After seeing a guitarist perform at a campus bar, he asked the owner if he too could get on stage. Soon, he started doing early Jake Owen concert shows in that bar on a regular basis. He also started to write original songs. Owen then moved to Nashville, Tennessee to try to make it as a country musician.
There, he got a lucky break. While opening a savings account, he told the bank teller about his plans in the music business. That teller happened to have some loose connections at the Warner/Chappell Music publishing company, so he asked Owen for a demo of his work so he could send it over. Owen obliged, and while he was never signed with Warner, the connection he made there himself eventually led him being picked up by the major country label RCA Records Nashville in 2005.
His debut album, “Startin’ With Me”, came out in July 2006. The titular track off of that record ended up reaching #6 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs list. Meanwhile, the album itself peaked at #31 on the famous Billboard 200 chart. Since then, Owen has put out 5 more studio albums, thus he has 6 in total. The best selling one among them is “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” from August 2011, which sold around 1 million copies worldwide. Meanwhile, the latest new Jake Owen album came out in March 2019, with the title “Greetings from... Jake”.
The biggest hits in the Jake Owen setlist to date are “Yee Haw” (2006), “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” (2011, same title as his album), “Beachin’” (2011), and “Down To The Honkytonk” (2019). Check where the next Jake Owen concert is playing near you on our page above.
