Paramore Biography

Paramore is an American alt rock band. They were founded in 2004 in Franklin, Tennessee. The founding members were lead guitarist and backing vocalist Josh Farro (born in 1987 in Voorhees Township, New Jersey), drummer Zac Farro (Josh’s brother, 1990, Voorhees Township, New Jersey), lead vocalist Hayley Williams (1988, Meridian, Mississippi), and bassist Jeremy Davis (1985, Little Rock, Arkansas).

Williams and the Farro brothers met each other at a supplementary program for homeschooled kids in Franklin, Tennessee as young teenagers. All three of them shared a passion for music. Originally, Williams played in a funk cover band called “Factory” with bassist Davis. Meanwhile, the Farro brothers played music together for recreation. By age 15, Williams had a contract with the major label Atlantic Records as a solo artist. However, that partnership never went anywhere as she refused to sing pop primarily, and wanted to stick with alt rock and a band.

So, Williams and the three other founders created the alt rock band “Paramore”. The name comes from the maiden name of their bassist’s mother. Only later did they find out that it’s a homophone of “paramour”, meaning secret lover. Since their lead singer was already connected in the industry, they were picked up by the indie label Fueled by Ramen almost instantly, while they were still teenagers. The music company was convinced after a Paramore concert at the Taste of Chaos festival in Orlando, Florida.

Their debut album came out in July 2005, with the title “All We Know Is Falling”. It became a moderate hit, peaking at the #30 spot on the new artist-specific Heatseekers chart by Billboard, while reaching the #32 spot on the Rock & Metal albums chart by OCC in the UK. In 2008, they got to go on their first nationwide Paramore concert tour, called “The Final Riot! Tour”.

Since then, the Tennessee-based rock stars have released 5 more studio albums, thus they have 6 in total. The best selling one among them is “Brand New Eyes” from September 2009, which sold 770,000 copies in the US alone. The upcoming new Paramore album is set to be released in February 2023, with the title “This is Why”.

Co-founders Josh and Zac Farro left the band in 2010, claiming too much label influence on their art as the reason. Bassist Davis also left in 2015, however, Zac Farro rejoined in 2017. Their current line-up consists of two of the four founders, lead vocalist Williams and drummer Zac Farro, as well as guitarist and keyboardist Taylor York.

The biggest hits in the Paramore setlist to date are “Misery Business” (2007), “Decode” (2008), “The Only Exception” (2009), and “Still Into You” (2013).
