Bobby Ray Simmons Jr., better known by his stage name B.o.B., is an American rapper, songwriter, and music producer. He was born on November 15, 1988 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. B.o.B. was playing the trumpet throughout his years in elementary and high school. As a result, he fell in love with music early on, and knew he wanted a career in the industry. He also started to make beats on a keyboard his parents got him. He managed to sell one of those beats to a professional rapper named Citti at just age 14. Also, he was regularly performing at open mic nights and underground hip hop clubs in his area.

He got mentorship and management from rapper B-Rich early on in his career. B.o.B. was discovered by someone else, music producer T.J. Chapman, as well, while performing his song “Cloud 9” about marijuana at an open mic event. With new help from Chapman, he got signed by Atlantic Records in 2007. The next year, in 2008, he was featured on one of the tracks on T.I.’s album “Paper Trail”, titled “On Top of the World”, alongside Ludacris. In 2009, he went on a nationwide B.o.B. concert tour, “The Great Hangover Tour”, together with Kid Cudi and Asher Roth.

His debut album came out in April 2010, with the title “B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray”. It became a massive hit, topping the famous Billboard 200 chart in the US. Since then, the North Carolina rapper has put out 5 more studio albums, thus he has 6 in total. The best selling one among them has remained his first one from 2010, which sold 600,000 copies in the US alone. Meanwhile, the latest new B.o.B. album came out in August 2022, with the title “Better Than Drugs”.

B.o.B.’s biggest hits to date are “Airplanes” (2010) featuring Hayley Williams from Paramore, “Nothin’ On You” (also 2010) featuring Bruno Mars, and “Headband” (2013) featuring 2Chainz.
