Melanie Martinez Concerts

Melanie Adele Martinez is an American singer and songwriter. She was born on April 25, 1995 in New York City, New York. Martinez was born into a Puerto Rican-Dominican family. She dreamed about becoming a singer from a very young age. Her early musical influences varied widely in genres and time periods: they included The Beatles, Tupac Shakur, and Brandy, as well as the typical teenage pop stars at the time, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. In elementary school, her singing talent was discovered by a teacher named Ms. Nadien, who encouraged her to take music seriously. Martinez also started writing poetry in kindergarten and taught herself how to play the guitar.

In 2012, at age 17, she entered the Varsity Talent Show on the small cable channel MSG, but didn’t go far. The same year, however, she made a much deeper run on the much bigger reality-talent show The Voice on NBC. She ended up making the top 6 in the competition.

After the show, she started intensely working on her original songs - she only sang covers on The Voice. In February 2014, she released her debut single “Dollhouse”. Right after her first song came out, she went on a Melanie Martinez concert tour called "The Dollhouse Tour". As a result, she was signed by the major American record label Atlantic Records later that year. Her debut album, “Cry Baby”, came out in August 2015. It became a hit, peaking at the #6 spot on the Billboard 200 list. The standout single on the record was "Pity Party”, which uses a lot of samples from Lesley Gore’s 1963 hit pop song “It’s My Party” for its chorus. In December 2020, during the Coronavirus lockdowns, she performed in a global streaming Melanie Martinez concert event on her own website.

Since then, only one new Melanie Martinez album has been released, “K-12” in September 2019. It outperformed her debut album on Billboard 200: this record reached the #3 spot. She also produced a feature-length movie with the same title to accompany her new album, which is available for free on her YouTube channel. Her biggest hits to date are the aforementioned “Dollhouse” (2014) and “Pity Party” (2015), as well as “Pacify Her” (2015), and “Play Date” (also 2015).
